Colorado Teen Hana Kebede Wins State Poetry Out Loud Competition

Headed to National Competition in Washington DC in May

The Colorado Creative Industries division of the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT) and Lighthouse Writers Workshop are pleased to announce that Hana Kebede of Overland High School has been named the 2023 Colorado Poetry Out Loud State Champion. Kebede will advance to the national competition in May.

Colorado Creates grants to further the arts in 28 Colorado counties

Today, Colorado Creative Industries (CCI), a division of the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT), announced the FY2023 recipients of the Colorado Creates Grant Program. A total of 121 grants will distribute $834,500 to arts organizations and communities across 28 Colorado counties, including Routt, La Plata, Weld and Pueblo counties.   

Colorado Creative Industries Director Margaret Hunt Receives NASAA 2022 Luminary Award for Transformative Executive Leadership

Colorado Creative Industries (CCI), a division of the Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT), is pleased to announce that the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies (NASAA) has named Margaret Hunt, director of Colorado Creative Industries, the recipient of its 2022 Luminary Award for Transformative Executive Leadership. The award recognizes an executive director who has exhibited exemplary leadership and made a significant contribution to public support for the arts at the state, regional and national levels. Hunt has served as CCI director since 2013 under Govs.

West Denver Rising International Night Market highlights transformational power of community-led revitalization projects

The second West Denver Rising International Night Market coming up this Saturday, August 20, will showcase the transformational effect of community-led revitalization efforts in collaboration with state government agencies. This innovative project turned a Colfax Viaduct underpass typically reserved for parking into a vibrant community gathering space in the Sun Valley neighborhood of West Denver.

On a Friday night in May, muralist Julio Mendoza put the finishing touches on a colorful, vibrant design he spent almost a month painting under the Colfax Viaduct. To the north sat Empower Field, to the west views of downtown Denver, and beneath his feet—a good portion of his work had to be done from a lift—a parking lot most often used for Broncos games but would host an International Night Market the next day. 

Arts in Society Grant to Promote Cross-sector Work through the Arts in 2022

From July 1-August 29, 2022, RedLine Contemporary Art Center will be accepting Arts in Society grant applications for cross-sector projects that engage the arts to address or raise awareness of civic, social and community-informed challenges statewide.

Colorado Arts Relief Grants Help Artists Do What They Do Best: Create

Many of Colorado’s artists and creative sector workers supplement their income by working in the service industry. It helps cover living expenses and often provides the flexibility to create in their chosen mediums. At the start of the pandemic, the Colorado Creative Industries team knew that these artists would be doubly affected, losing pay from two sources. Many would be without any income whatsoever, even as rent became due and groceries needed to be purchased. 

Colorado Creative Industries to Receive $867,500 Partnership Award from the National Endowment for the Arts

Colorado Creative Industries has been approved for an $867,500 National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Fiscal Year 2022 Partnership Agreement to address priorities identified at the state level. These funds will support the arts in areas such as cultural tourism, community revitalization, economic development, education, and health and human services.
