“Side Stories” Annual Film Event Returns to RiNo Art District Feb. 11-20, 2022

DENVER (Nov. 15, 2021) — Side Stories, the immersive, large-format outdoor film installation festival, returns this Feb. 11-20, 2022. This year’s event will bring five exterior walls in the art district to life over 10 winter nights. This year’s theme is Love Stories.

From Friday, Nov. 5- Dec. 3, 2021, artists are invited to submit film concepts that align with this year’s Love Stories theme to be projected onto one of the five wall locations. Collectively, these works will create an immersive, walkable art experience. An interactive map and audio tour will help guide visitors along the route.

“After hitting pause last year, we’re thrilled to bring people together again for Side Stories at a time when people are craving community, connection, and love more than ever,” said Fiona Arnold, president of MAINSPRING, and one of the innovators behind Side Stories. “This year’s theme is an opportunity to explore the wide range of emotions and subjects that make up a love story – from small gestures to epic moments. We can’t wait to see the creativity our local artist community brings to this year’s event.”

Each commissioned artist will receive a $5,000 grant to create a site-specific, five-minute film loop. Film genres include live action, documentary, historical, motion graphics, animation, and experimental. Artists can submit their work here

Once again, the event will also feature special offers from local businesses, encouraging visitors to stop for a warm drink, grab a bite or shop along the way. Look for more on participating locations in early 2022.

Side Stories is a free public event founded through a partnership between MAINSPRING, Mary Lester /Martin Family Foundation, RiNo Art District, the Colorado Office of Film, Television, & Media, and the Denver Film Society
