Colorado Creative Industries (CCI), a division of the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade, today announced that Tony Garcia of Denver, Amy Kimberly of Carbondale and Evan Weissman of Denver were selected to receive the 2019 Governor's Creative Leadership Awards.
The Governor's Creative Leadership Awards honor community members who have demonstrated a significant commitment to Colorado’s creative landscape through civic leadership and volunteerism including advocacy, vision, collaboration and innovation. Winners will receive an original work of art created by Salida artist Brice Turnbull.
"This award seeks out those that are providing selfless service within the creative sector in Colorado, and inspires others by honoring their process and celebrating achievements," said CCI Director Margaret Hunt.
The winners will be honored at an awards luncheon on May 17, at the Salida SteamPlant in Salida, Colorado in conjunction with the 8th Annual Creative Industries Summit.
The Winners
Tony Garcia, Su Teatro (Denver) – Garcia was selected in the arts and community action category for his leadership as a playwright, cultural activist, community builder and social critic.
Amy Kimberly, Carbondale Arts (Carbondale) – Kimberly was selected in the arts and creative placemaking category for her use of the arts to envision new futures in the Roaring Fork Valley through activating public space, animating community, and sparking redevelopment.
Evan Weissman, Warm Cookies of the Revolution (Denver) – Weissman was selected in the arts and community action category for his civic engagement initiatives that empower and inspire citizens to participate in decision making.
Brice Turnbull (Salida) – Turnball was selected through a call for proposals to commission original works of art that will serve as awards for the three winners.
