CRAFT Case Study: Berry Patch Farms, Weld County

Berry Patch Farms was awarded a CRAFT Mentor program by the Colorado Tourism Office in spring 2016. The objective of this CRAFT Mentor program was to create a Festival Event Plan & Procedures document for their pumpkin tasting event and cantaloupe festival, including event strategies, event challenges, liability and crowd management protocols, marketing efforts, and collaboration ideas.

Located in Weld County, Berry Patch Farms is a family-owned organic farm that encourages visitors to harvest their own fruits and vegetables.

CRAFT Mentor Program Results

The Colorado Tourism Office matched Berry Patch Farms with Kristina Cash, a CRAFT Mentor with experience in event planning, communications and public relations to achieve the following outcomes:

  • Developed a Festival Event Plan & Procedures document to streamline the oversight and implementation of existing and future events. The plan included event strategies, event opportunities and challenges, marketing efforts, and collaboration ideas.
  • Drafted event supporting documents and procedures to provide consistency to the events and ease transitions to future event staff
  • Introduced an event timeline to streamline the responsibilities of the event staff and provide direction throughout the year

"Allow yourself sufficient lead time for planning and implementing. Start getting things worked out 3 months ahead of time. Set the date for the festival and work from there." — Tim Ferrell, Owner
