Restart Industry Associations Success Story: Museums of the San Luis Valley

Museums of San Luis Valley and Southern Colorado (MSLVSC) was approved to participate in the Restart Industry Associations Program by the Colorado Tourism Office (CTO) in September 2021.

The purpose of MSLVSC is to support member museums in their efforts to celebrate, preserve, and promote the history of the San Luis Valley through its collections and in the study of the people, culture, places, and events. With a reach of 22 members, MSLVSC supports and promotes its museum members by managing museumtrail.org  with information about each museum and inspirational itineraries for visitors to discover the rich history of the valley.

MSLVSC was paired with Olivia Ward, a CRAFT Mentor with experience in travel and tourism social media marketing, digital advertising, and digital content strategy, to deliver 75 hours of free consulting to conduct the activities listed below.

The purpose of this project was to provide digital marketing support to help MSLVSC museums build awareness of Colorado’s Museum Trail through visitor education.

Project objectives included:

  • develop a branding and digital promotion toolkit for MSLVSC members to increase brand awareness and promote Colorado’s Museum Trail
  • record a virtual presentation explaining the toolkit and resources for on-demand member access
  • develop digital stories that encourage visitors to experience the unique regions and museums of the San Luis Valley and Southern Colorado

MSLVSC achieved the following results with its Restart Industry Associations Mentor:

  • branding and digital promotion resources that includes a toolkit, brand guidelines, Facebook strategy and template, and content calendar template
  • 45-minute on-demand virtual training to guide members through the toolkit and resources
  • six digital stories to be featured in Google searches, Colorado’s Museum Trail Facebook page, museumtrail.org, and member museum websites
