Small Business Accelerated Growth

The Small Business Accelerated Growth program provides technical assistance and grants to small businesses to grow their business. The program provides online learning modules along with personalized expert consultation, and grants of varying amounts. The program fosters growth of existing companies that have been in the market for at least one year. Small Business Accelerated Growth was built in collaboration with the Colorado Small Business Development Center Network and Minority Business Office of Colorado.

  • Market Research
  • Digital Marketing and Online Presence

Overview

Type: Technical assistance and grant

For: Businesses with 19 or fewer employees

Applications due: November 30

OEDIT division: Small Business Development Center Network and Minority Business Office

This training pathway provides support for business owners to work with experts to outline:

  • The current business model
  • What products are being offered
  • Identifying the target market and audiences for the product
  • How to reach the target market and audiences

Going through this process will make businesses more competitive to bring their product to the correct markets and consumers. Each training module's content is created by the Boulder Small Business Development Center for use by the entire Colorado Small Business Development Center Network.

This is a competitive grant application. Each eligible business that is selected and has successfully completed this course may receive a grant of up to $8,000 to put their learning in practice.

Timeline

This training pathway is now open for applications until November 30, 2022. The program team will review applications from December 1, 2022 to December 15, 2022.

50 applications will be chosen to join the program and selected businesses will be working on the program from January 1, 2023 to February 28, 2023. Grants will be distributed in March 2023.

Selection criteria are still being defined for each training pathway. There may be additional restrictions for eligible businesses in addition to those listed below. Please note this program is for for-profit businesses.

Eligibility and geographic regions

Eligible businesses must:

  • have been in operation in the state of Colorado for at least one year
  • have 19 or fewer employees, including the business owner, full time, and part time employees

Preference will be offered to businesses located in one or more of the following geographic regions:

This educational content will train small business owners on how to strategically use digital tools and marketing to reach their target audience. Content is created by the Aurora South Metro Small Business Development Center for use by the entire Colorado Small Business Development Center Network.

This content will cover:

  • Social Media: How to increase your sales with social media 
  • Website Fundamentals: Improving your Website: Best Practices
  • Tips to Develop Your E-Commerce Site 

This is a competitive grant application and each eligible business that is selected and has successfully completed this course may receive a grant to put their learning into practice.

Timeline

This training pathway will open for applications in early winter 2023, offering 50 grants to eligible participants.

Each of these 3 training pathways offer unique and critical small business ownership skills to grow your business. We encourage you to choose the topic that would be most beneficial for your business. You may also choose to apply for more than one pathway, if you would like. 

This educational content will help you identify your capital needs, assess the health of your business, and prepare for a loan application. This program focuses on financial business practices such as accounting, taxation, profit and loss, cash flow, and other financial topics. 

If you are not yet registered with the Colorado Secretary of State, you will be redirected to the Business Foundations Technical Assistance program for a foundational education on starting your business. 

If you are registered with the Colorado Secretary of State, you will be invited to complete this training pathway. To be eligible for the additional grant portion of this program, you must also meet the following 2 requirements: you’ve been in business for at least one year, and you have 19 or fewer employees.

Timeline

This training path will be offered in rounds. Businesses may apply during the open application windows. Each round of the program offers the same technical assistance, online learning modules, and grant opportunities. Program applications are now closed. The next application round will open soon. 

Grant application

Once you have successfully completed the program, you may be eligible for a grant if you meet all eligibility requirements. This is a competitive grant application and businesses will be able to use what they learned during the program in their grant application. Each eligible business that is selected and has successfully completed this course may receive a grant of $5,000.
